Week 3 - Photos and Images

This is an area that I have had some previous experience in as I do actually have a Flickr account set up to share photos with family and friends back home. The tags are a bookmarking system that allow you to organise and search for images based on their content. Groups, such as "libraries" will bring up a list of all names that have attached this group to their account name. I was able to locate the Victoria University Information Studies Flickr group page and find images from the 2009 Auckland Orientation Day. These types of features make for very efficient searching tools.

Took a photo of my lovely dog, Smudge and enhanced the image with Picnik. It is quite amazing all the applications that are available - I adjusted the color, added a shadow frame and of course, put her name on it.

The image generators were really fun to have a play around with and I could see this as a tool to use within the library for making personalised displays especially for children. My favourites are the batmancomics and the good old alphabet soup for Mt Albert Library!

Week 2 - Social Networking

Good to be back -- stepped out to enjoy my annual leave. Just did some exploring of the social networking sites. I have not really been keen to participate in this type of networking but I may consider using facebook as I found a "network" of acquaintances from work and as well as many fellow MLIS/MIS students and staff that are connected via the Victoria Information Studies Programme facebook page. I feel a little left out of the loop you could say.

My Space and Bebo I didn't have as much luck finding people I knew but did stumble across a some interesting sites. Linkedin I found the most difficult to navigate as the help secgtion and the "about Linkedin" did not really make it any easier for me to find organizations as it seemed to be based on personal name searches. Perhaps I need to further investigate.
